Week in Review: Graduations, Upcoming Concerts and East Quogue Budget Passes

The following is a round-up of headlines posted during the week of June 17. 

1. Graduations

2. Lohan Could Finish Rehab in Westhampton Beach

Two months after troubled actress Lindsay Lohan stuck her nose up at Westhampton's Seafield rehabilitation center, she has reportedly requested that she finish her rehabilitation stint there.

Westhampton Woman First in Line at Joe's For Free Crab

 Westhampton resident Elizabeth Tyson was first on line at Joe's Crab Shack in Riverhead to win free crabs for a year. 

5. Sunday Bus Ridership Making Gains 

Two years after securing funds to offer Sunday bus service on the East End, Legis. Jay Schneiderman – the South Fork legislator who helped get the service implemented in full – said that ridership is up year-over-year, after comparing numbers so far this year with last summer's first full season of service.

Schedule: Finest in World Cinema Returns to Westhampton Beach

Subtitled films, including Renoir and Augustine, will be showing at the Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center this summer. 

The films, which are part of the center's Finest in World Cinema series, were made possible, the theater said, through a donation from supporters Rose and Don Ciampa.

7. Voters Overwhelmingly Pass East Quogue School Budget

While East Quogue residents voted down the school district's proposal to pierce the cap on the tax levy increase last month, voters came in full force to support a dialed-down budget this time around. 

8. Police Nonprofit Donates Cash To West Hampton Dunes

The East End Police Foundation offered its financial support to the West Hampton Dunes Police Constabulary during the PC Officer's Summer Kickoff Party at John Scott’s Surf Shack on Friday.

The foundation donated $1,550 for the constabulary to buy equipment for maintaining officer and traffic safety in the small village.

9. Assemblyman Thiele Joins East End Law Firm

New York State Assemblyman Fred Thiele Jr., I-Sag Harbor, who is also an attorney, is packing up his solo law practice and joining the law firm of Twomey, Latham, Shea, Kelley, Dubin & Quartararo as its newest partner.

10. Photos: 2nd Annual Softball Tournament Hits a Homerun

With the help of Hampton Bays and Southampton students, the second annual Softball-a-thon to benefit the non-profit Kids Stock the House organization of Southampton was held on Saturday with nearly 200 people in attendance.

11. Corner Kick Club Collects 1,613 Old Sneakers

The Westhampton Beach Middle School Soccer Club, the Corner Kick Club, has successfully collected 1,613 pairs of old sneakers from community members as part of a fundraising effort. 

12. Schedule: 'Kids on the Green' Performance Series

The Westhampton Free Library's children's department, in conjunction with the Westhampton Chamber of Commerce and Youth Alliance, will once again be sponsoring a free 'Kids on the Green' series this summer. 

13. Library Concert Series Set to Kick-Off

The Westhampton Free Library's annual concert series at the gazebo and Rogers Beach is set to begin on June 22 and run through August. The concerts, which include a weekly drum circle, are in addition to the library's Kids on the Green series and theWesthampton Cultural Consortium's concerts, which are also held at the gazebo.
