The Center for Creative Retirement (CCR) began its 33rd year on Monday September 9. Retirees seeking an intellectual challenge and social engagement will find in the program just what they are seeking.
CCR meets Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays in the LIU Building on the campus of Suffolk Community College in Riverhead.
Each day brings a fresh perspective on some topic that members have chosen as part of the syllabus. CCR volunteers research and present the topics. As a member, you can look forward to a rich tapestry of new facts and perspectives.
From 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Monday, October 7, join a discussion of ten recent Supreme Court cases. How would you decide each? At noon, enjoy a one-hour session on the iconic Mount Rushmore National Monument in South Dakota. Learn how the likenesses of four U.S. Presidents were painstakingly carved into the mountainside through the efforts of a single-minded sculptor and his dedicated crew of workers.
Tuesday’s morning session is a provocative look women’s at women's “rights” in the countries of the Middle East where subjugation of women is a common practice. In the afternoon, sit in on a lively roundtable discussion of current events. Expect our moderator to elicit opinions about the government shutdown, the turbulent Middle East, and whether we can trust the overtures Iran has made to the United States.

Thursday starts with lively folk music from the Ukraine and Russia. Three of our members draw from their musical research in these traditions. In the afternoon, we learn and laugh as our guest speaker tells us how he self-published his book of humor on parenting.
