Incident Reports: Passenger Skips Fare, Punches Cabbie
Also reported to town police, a boat broken into at a Hampton Bays marina, and a man received a scam call stating his brother is hospitalized and in need of $3,400.
Crimes and suspicious incidents reported to the Southampton Town Police Department, west of the Shinnecock Canal:
Assault
• A cab driver said he picked up a man at The Drift on Dune Road and dropped him off at Baywatch Motel, but when he told the man the fare was $20, he only paid with two crumpled up dollar bills. When the cab driver got out and told the man it was not enough money, the man punched him in the face and ran. According to the incident report the cab driver had a bloody nose but refused medical treatment.

Burglary
• The owner of a house in Hampton Bays said he was alerted July 23 by his insurance company that the residence had been broken into. Located on Montauk Highway West, the house’s rear door was kicked in and copper was removed from the basement, according to the incident report.

• A Westfield, N.J., woman told police July 22 that between July 14 and that date someone broke open a small black safe in the upstairs bedroom closet at a Hampton Bays home on Sun Valley Road. The safe had nothing inside.
Scheme to Defraud
• A Hampton Bays man told police July 23 that he received a phone call stating this his brother was in an accident and needed $3,400 for hospital bills. The man called his brother, who was OK, then contacted police, according to the incident report.
Criminal Mischief
• A Hampton Bays woman reported that on July 21 someone broke the passenger rear vent window of her vehicle, which was parked on Dune Road. She had left nothing of value in the vehicle, she told police.
Graffiti
• A Speonk man reported July 21 that sometime overnight someone spraypainted a graffiti tag in green on his white fence.
Grand Larceny• A Riverhead man told police July 25 that sometime since July 6, someone entered his boat and Jackson’s Marina in Hampton Bays and took his belongings. The man said he would that the cabin door, which had been locked, was ajar.
