Heather Petrie Identified as Driver in Fatal Eastport Crash

Thursday morning accident claims life of Eastport woman.

A 40-year-old Eastport woman died Thursday morning when her car flipped over on County Road 111 — an accident that tied up traffic for hours on a major artery to the Hamptons.

Suffolk County police said Heather Petrie was driving a 2005 Ford Mustang southbound on County Road 111 in Eastport when the car veered off the road into the median and overturned, landing in the northbound lanes. The accident, at around 7:45 a.m., occurred north of County Road 51, authorities said.

A physician assistant with the Suffolk County medical examiner's office pronounced Petrie dead at the scene, police said.

County Road 111 was partially closed while the scene was investigated. The road reopened at 11:20 a.m.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding the crash to call detectives at 631-852-8752 or anonymously call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
