Don't Miss It: Informational Meeting on Proposed New Firehouse

The meeting starts at 7 p.m.

The Westhampton Beach Fire District will present its plan to demolish its existing firehouse and build a new one in its place at 7 p.m at the main firehouse on Sunset Avenue.

The meeting comes as the district readies for a public vote on the plan, which is set for June 4 and asks the public to approve a 20-year bond to fund the new firehouse.

Fire commissioners are estimating that taxpayers with a home assessed at $600,000 will be looking at an annual tax increase of about $82.00, for a total fire district tax of $265.00.

The plan calls specifically for the construction of a new $15.7 million firehouse, which will replace the existing, 63-year-old firehouse, which district officials said is antiquated and does not meet the needs of firefighters. It also has several safety deficiencies, officials said.

The plan, commissioners said has been in the works for the past three years with various schemes vetted, including one to put an addition on the existing firehouse.
