Previous: The Village of Westhampton Beach granted Dune Road access to Westhampton-Hampton Bays Patch on Wednesday afternoon. It was a somber trip as many bayside homes, especially in the area of Pond Point, were flooded with bay waters still prevalent on many of the streets — one home's roof had lifted up.

Driving down the portion of Dune Road under the jurisdiction of Westhampton Beach no homes appeared to have suffered any severe wind damage and the entire length of Dune Road within Westhampton Beach's boundaries was passable though Paul Houlihan – Westhampton Beach's building inspector, who escorted Patch – said there were several washovers during the storm, but waters had subsided as of Wednesday morning.

Oceanside homes and those that met FEMA regulations appeared to have fared very well; most of the bluffs held up though were severely weathered and damage can been seen at Roger's Beach where water washed up and over the pavilion. Fences and debris from Quogue washed up along the beach line at Rogers as it typically does during storms, according to Houlihan.

The border of Quogue and Westhampton Beach is blocked off as Quogue is not allowing any access to its portion of Dune Road. An officer standing guard indicated that there were numerous washovers and parts of the roadway are still flooded.

Reporters were also denied access to the Village of West Hampton Dunes though where Southampton's jurisdiction meets West Hampton Beach the remnants of wash over could be seen with crews starting to move sand off the roadway. Many homes in the area were covered with dirt and debris that the bay left behind.

According to environmental consultant Aram Terchunian, of First Coastal, there were a total of three minor overwashes in the dunes and at Cupsogue Beach.

Southampton officials have not yet granted access to the Hampton Bays and East Quogue portion of Dune Road though photos obtained by Patch show that the area near the Shinncock Commercial Docks was flattened.

Officials say Dune Road in Hampton Bays to East Quogue is still not passable and FEMA has been called in to assess the situation.

All jurisdictions say that they will not open Dune Road possibly for a few days due to flooding and downed power lines.
