He fled and remained at large as of Friday. The robbery came one day after a Setauket bank was robbed; that robber was not caught either.

Convicted Killer Robert Waterhouse Pronounced Dead on Feb.15
Despite pleas to the Florida State and U.S. Supreme Courts for a stay of execution, Robert Waterhouse, formerly of Greenport, was pronounced dead at Florida State Prison at 8:22 p.m. on Wednesday after undergoing a lethal injection procedure mandated by Florida Gov. Rick Scott on Jan. 4., according to a report from Reuters. Waterhouse, 65, was sentenced to life in 1967 for the 1966 rape-murder of 77-year-old Greenport resident Ella Carter. SOUTHAMPTON

Supermarket Law Fans Come Out of Woodwork
After two public hearings in which the critics dominated the conversation, fans of legislation proposed in Southampton Village to allow for a new grocery store spoke up at the final hearing Thursday. The Village Board has yet to take a vote on the proposal, which would change the zoning code to allow a supermarket between 10,000 and 20,000 square feet to the built in the highway business district. While some supporters spoke up at the first and second public hearings, at the final hearing there were far more voices in favor as well as an abundance of letters.

After learning on Wednesday night that Village of Westhampton Beach officials will not consider a petition that was submitted to them last month asking for an amendment to the village's zoning code to allow for a supermarket, developer Andrew Mendelson said he will take his fight to the people. He said, "There is an election coming up in June."

Fight Over Montauk Green Starts War
The Montauk veterans and artists are at odds over which group should get to use the Village Green Memorial Day weekend, but it would also appear an all-out war has begun over the green's intended purpose.

An ad hoc veterans group has asked the East Hampton Town Board permission to hold three days worth of events, starting Saturday, displacing the Montauk Artists' Association 5th annual Juried Art Show and Sale, scheduled for Friday, Saturday and Sunday of the holiday weekend.

The fight between the two organizations has been brewing for some time. For the inaugural parade and ceremony last May, the two organizations compromised, sharing the area. This year, the veterans were not so willing.
