Suffolk County's Smith Point beach, which overlooks the Atlantic Ocean, sits at the end of William Floyd…More Parkway in Shirley, NY.
Managed by the Suffolk County Parks Department, the beach features a pedestrian access tunnel to the beach;public bathrooms; a concession stand, known as the Beach Hut that services alcohol; live music during the week and weekends during the summer; and a children's playground.
It is also a Mecca for fishermen and surfers.
The park also has an outer beach area (permit required) for off-road vehicles, as well as a reservations-required campground with sites that all have electric hook-ups and water.
From the parking lot, there is also access to the eastern end of the Fire Island National seashore, known as the Ottis Pike Island High Dune Wilderness Center. There is also a clothing-optional beach area about a mile past a winding board walk that leads to the beach.
Smith Point is also home to the TWA Flight 800 Memorial.
