Area Seniors Performed on PAC Stage

Seniors performed as part of the Life-Long Learning Program, 'Melodies & Memories.'

We are so proud of our area seniors!  Last week, 19 members of the Town of Southampton Senior Services Center performed at the as part of our Life Long Learning Program, “Melodies & Memories.”

2011 marks the second year of our three-year integrated arts project for seniors, with the theme, Try to Remember.  Thanks to generous support from The Emilie and Michael Corey Foundation, we are able to offer the seniors a curriculum that challenges and engages their understanding of music and acting.

This year’s cast met two times a week, for five weeks, to rehearse for, what turned out to be, a heartwarming and sentimental public performance. Weaving together music and theatre, the seniors showcased their newly acquired singing and story-telling skills. What’s so great about the program is that it not only improved the seniors’ various performing arts skills, but it also really increased their self-esteem, and eased a lot of their anxieties about getting older.

It’s been an amazing journey for these seniors and we can’t wait to have them back again, next year.  We encourage all of the older adults in our area – while the music is still playing, let’s dance.
