Thank you for your interest in my blog – “The Short Trip”. I am a resident of the Village of Westhampton Beach, NY, and I decided to start writing about my jaunts because they seem to be of interest to other people.
Sometimes living on the east end of Long Island can be overwhelming. I live here year round with my sons. Our small village is quaint and friendly most of the time. However, we are also a vacation community and sometimes we are overrun with tourists. Those are the times I like to try to get away somewhere a little less hectic.
My choice of destination depends on a few factors, but primarily: time and money. Unfortunately, I don’t have a lot of either, but I still manage to achieve my goal. I also love to have a travel partner, such as a friend or son, but sometimes it isn’t possible. So, I’ll also travel alone.
A great number of my short trips are to the New England area. We are fortunate to have the Cross Sound Ferry out of Orient to allow for an easy escape. I started these trips years ago by traveling to Boston. I know, how is traveling to a major city an escape from a hectic hometown? At the time, it was just an escape, and that was all I was looking for. There was so much to do in Boston, that I began making it my regular destination.
After years of exploring Boston, I started to research other destinations and found plenty of places worth exploring. New England is rich in American History and for that reason alone, everyone should make at least one trip over the sound. But there are also many other reasons to visit New England. I have eaten in some world-class restaurants, seen great shows, walked through interesting parks, gone to phenomenal museums, and the list goes on. New Englanders are also some of the friendliest people you’ll ever meet.
Whatever you may have an interest in, you will find it on or a short distance from the east end of Long Island with our northern neighbors of Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. I implore you to explore.
