Center for Creative Retirement-Week of September 23

The Center for Creative Retirement (CCR) began its 33rd year on Monday September 9. Retirees seeking an intellectual challenge and social engagement will find in the program just what they are seeking.

CCR meets Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays in the LIU Building on the campus of Suffolk Community College in Riverhead.

Each day brings a fresh perspective on some topic that members have chosen as part of the syllabus. CCR volunteers research and present the topics. As a member, you can look forward to a rich tapestry of new facts and perspectives.

On Monday morning, September 23, at 10 a.m., learn about Ireland's historic struggle for home rule.  Hear about the personalities that carried the fight against Great Britain.  And in the afternoon, from noon to 1 p.m., participate in a current events roundtable where members address issues, both foreign and domestic, that are presented by our moderator.

Tuesday morning will tickle your funny bone.  The lives and work of two of TV's greatest comedians--Jackie Gleason and Red Skelton--will be viewed and discussed.  In the afternoon, some of our new members will introduce themselves.  Their backgrounds are unique, and we look forward to hearing about their most interesting life experiences.

Thursday begins with an introduction to CCR's course on the historian, Barbara Tuchman, who wrote popular books of history covering the Middle Ages, Renaissance, American Revolution, and World War I.  In the afternoon, from noon to 1 p.m., we continue our series "Advertising and Consumerism in the United States."  Hear part 1 of a two-part presentation, "Advertising Executives and Their Creativity."

CCR classes are held in the LIU Building on the campus of Suffolk Community College, 121 Speonk-Riverhead Road, Riverhead, NY. Our web site: http://www.liu.edu/Riverhead/CE/CCR/About.

Membership fees continue to be very reasonable.
