Center for Creative Retirement-Week of Sept. 9

The Center for Creative Retirement (CCR) begins its 33rd year on Monday September 9.  Retirees seeking an intellectual challenge and social engagement will find in the program just what they are seeking.

CCR meets Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays in the LIU Building on the campus of Suffolk Community College in Riverhead.

Each day brings a fresh perspective on some topic that members have chosen as part of the syllabus.  CCR volunteers research and present the topics.  As a member, you can look forward to a rich tapestry of new facts and perspectives.

On Monday Spetember 9th, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., hear about CCR's program of Irish history and culture accompanied by a sing-along of great Irish songs with recordings of great Irish singers like John McCormack.  From noon to 1:00 p.m., following lunch, national parks in America is the topic--find out how the parks got started and how they are unique among the countries of the world.

On Tuesday morning, attend a class play reading of "The Solid Gold Cadillac," a satire on big business in America.  In the afternoon, be part of a class roundtable discussion of current events--both foreign and domestic--with a gifted and experienced moderator.

Thursday morning, get involved in the topic of women's rights in different parts of the world--from full equality through developing equality to barbaric subjugation.  And in the afternoon, find out that rock and roll music really didn't start in the 1950s, but had its roots back in the roaring '20's.

CCR classes are held in the LIU Building on the campus of Suffolk Community College, 121 Speonk-Riverhead Road, Riverhead, NY.  Our web site: http://www.liu.edu/Riverhead/CE/CCR/About.

Membership fees continue to be very reasonable.
