Take the Pledge, Get a Free Tote

The totes will be given away at area beaches on Saturday.

For the second summer in a row, the Town of Southampton is set to give away reusable, canvas tote bags to residents willing to pledge to reduce, reuse, and recycle when it comes to plastic bags.

The bags will be given away on Saturday at Sagg Main, Pikes, and Ponquogue Beaches from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. or until the bags run out.

Last summer, Councilman Chris Nuzzi and Councilwoman Christine Preston Scalera, who sit on the town's recycling task force, handed out 1,000 in an effort to to increase the recycling rate of plastic bags in Southampton.

The bags are sponsored by the Hampton Jitney and The Hampton Coffee Company, Southampton Business Alliance, and Cornell Cooperative Extension have all donated gift certificates, reusable bags, and chap sticks for beachgoers for the giveaway event.
