Parks & Rec Program Participation Up in 2012

As of Tuesday, Director Chris Bean says 800 people have registered for summer programs — that number he said is a little more than in years past.

"We usually get a lot of registrations throughout the summer, but it is unusual to have that many to open up the season," he said.

Bean says by the end of the summer, the parks department expects to have registered close to 3,000 for it's summer programs, which he said run the gamut from sports programs to swimming instruction.

The most popular programs, he said are water-related, including sailing, windsurfing, junior lifeguarding and swimming.  

Sports programs are also high on resident's summer program lists to sign up for and he said, he is finding that more and more people are paying for lacrosse classes. 

Bean says his department will continue to take registrations for all programs and there are still openings available.  Residents, who are already in the town's system, call call in their registrations. And walk-in registrations are always welcome.
