Finest in World Cinema Schedule Released

Six film will be shown during the summer series.

The has released its summer Finest in World Cinema series in which films will be shown each Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evening at 8 p.m. at the Main Street theater. 

This summer, the center has scheduled the showing of six films, starting July 10 and ending August 16. Tickets for the films are $10, $7 for students and seniors and $3 for film society members.

The Film: “I Wish,” directed by Hirokazu Koreeda, Japanese, Rated PG, 2hr. 8min.

Showing: July 10, July 11, and July 12

Synopsis:  Twelve-year-old Koichi and his brother Ryunosuke have been separated due to thier parents' divorce. Koichi's only wish is for his family to be reunited. When he learns that a new bullet train line will soon open, linking the two towns the brothers live in, he starts to believe that a miracle will take place the moment these new trains first pass each other at top speed. With help from the adults around him, Koichi sets out on a journey with a group of friends, each hoping to witness a miracle that will improve their difficult lives.

The Film: “Hysteria," directed by Tanya Wexler, English, Rated R, 1 hr. 35 min.

Synopis: A mischievously inspired romantic comedy set in the late 19th century tells the story of young Doctor Mortimer Granville who finds himself working for a doctor who focuses on the treatment of "hysteria" in female patients. Granville becomes intrigued by his boss' eldest daughter, a rabble-rousing feminist.  The two rebels build an alliance as they confront a society that is not eager to change, and along the way they encounter the possibility of love and the invention of the electro-mechanical vibrator. Starring Academy Award nominee Maggie Gyllenhaal alongside Hugh Dancy, Jonathan Pryce, Rupert Everett and Felicity Jones.

The Film: “Your Sister’s Sister,” directed by Lynn Shelton, English, Rater R, 1hr 30min

Showing: July 24, July 25, and July 26

Synopsis: Emily Blunt, Rosemarie Dewitt and Mark Duplass star a new comedy about romance, grief and sibling rivalry. Iris invites her friend Jack to stay at her family's island getaway after the death of his brother. Once there, however, he runs into Iris' sister who is reeling from the abrupt end of a seven-year relationship. A blurry evening of drinking concludes with an awkward sexual incident, made worse by Iris' sudden presence at the cabin the next morning. A twisted tale of ever-complicated relationships is set in motion with raw, hilarious and emotional performances from the all-star cast. Starring Emily Blunt.

The Film: “Where Do We Go Now,” directed by Nadine Labaki, Arabic/Russian/English, Rated PG13, 1hr 50min 

Showing: July 31, August 1 and August 2

Synopsis: Set in a remote village where the church and the mosque stand side by side, WHERE DO WE GO NOW? follows the antics of the town's women to keep their blowhard men from starting a religious war. Women heartsick over sons, husbands and fathers lost to previous flare-ups unite to distract their men with clever ruses, from faking a miracle to hiring a troop of Ukrainian strippers.

The Film: “Take This Waltz,” directed by Sarah Polley, English, Rater R, 1hr 56 min  

Showing: August 7, August 8 and August 9

Synopsis: When Margot, meets Daniel their chemistry is intense and immediate. But Margot is happily married to Lou. When she learns that Daniel lives across the street from them, the certainty about her domestic life shatters. TAKE THIS WALTZ leads us, laughing, through the familiar, but uncharted question of what long-term relationships do to love, sex, and our images of ourselves. Starring Michelle Williams and Seth Rogen.

The Film: “Unforgivable," directed by André Téchiné, French/Italian, Not Rated, 1hr 51min

Showing: August 14, August 15 and August 16

Synopsis: A crime writer living in Venice while working on his new novel meets and soon marries his real-estate agent. Relocated to a remote house on Torcello Island, his obsession with his wife's daily whereabouts takes a dark turn.  UNFORGIVABLE examines the consequences of unresolved past relationships and their far-reaching effects into the future.
