Exercise Guru Brings the Gym to Clients' Driveways

Popular NYC fitness club expands to Hamptons with mobile fitness studio.

Adam Zickerman, author of the New York Times Bestseller "The Power of 10" is expanding his popular New York City-based fitness center, InForm, to the Hamptons this summer. Only this gym won't be in a storfront, instead, Zickerman said - it will be on wheels.

"I thought about opening a storefront for sometime, but the cost of opening for two months never seemed practical," said Zickerman.

Then, Zickerman said he had brainstorm: What about bringing a fitness studio right to a customer's driveway?

That was a year ago and now Zickerman says he's ready to launch his new mobile fitness studio in the Hamptons, where he says many of his existing clients summer.

"I have a number of clients that are out in the Hamptons in the summer and they are always telling me that they don't want to miss a workout," said Zickerman.

For $125 a session, clients can hire the 27-foot bus, which is equipped with air conditioning and certified trainer Mariko Philips of Southampton, to stop by their house for a 20-minute, high intensity workout.

The workouts and equipment are designed around Zikerman's 20-minute a week fitness program, which focuses on building muscle.

"Building muscle is key to great health, said Zickerman, who says anyone, regardless of age can benefit from his workouts, even "aunt Louise."

"It's a high-intensity, weigh training program that is kinder and gentler than the high-intensity workouts of the 1970s," said Zickerman.

Zickerman says using modified equipement, his clients can gain muscle mass by lifting and dropping weights at a slower rate.

"It's ten seconds up and ten seconds down," said Zickerman, who says that the program is so intense that clients only need to do one set of six types of exercise once a week for 20 minutes.

If his Hamptons endeavor is a success, Zickerman says he plans to bring his mobile bus to the parking lots of Long Island corporations and assisted living facilities.
