Suffolk County Libraries Provide Shelter, Power and Resources in Sandy's Aftermath

Suffolk County Public Libraries are providing much need resources in the wake of Hurriacane Sandy.

As the center of their communities, Suffolk County Public Libraries provide a place for warmth, entertainment, camaraderie and access to computers and wireless Internet for locals in the wake of Hurricane Sandy’s destruction.

Since Monday afternoon many Suffolk residents have been without power.   Local libraries offer essential services to its residents in emergencies, providing more than just a heated and well lit public spot.  They offer a place to work and conduct business, pay their bills, file insurance claims, contact federal agencies, find specialists to deal with any damage that may have occurred to their home or belongings, or let their loved ones know they are safe.

Adults and kids are invited to recharge their laptops, cell phones, iPads, hunker down, play games, read books, watch family movies, and participate in the libraries’ regularly scheduled programming.
