Suffolk County Public Libraries Provide Shelter, Power and Resources in Sandy's Aftermath
Patrons flood Rogers Memorial Library in Southampton Village for power
As the center of their communities, Suffolk County Public Libraries provide a place for warmth, entertainment, camaraderie, and access to computers and wireless for locals in the wake of Hurricane Sandy’s destruction. Many local libraries are going the extra mile to help residents in this difficult time.
Since October 29 thousands of Suffolk residents have been without power. Libraries offer essential services to their patrons in emergencies, providing more than just a heated and well lit public spot. The Rogers Memorial Library in Southampton Village has been filled with patrons recharging their cell phones and laptop computers. There have been approximately double the number of visitors to the library since Hurricane Sandy struck Long Island. Patrons say that they feel more comfortable at the library than fighting for power at local coffee shops
and restaurants.
Your local library is a valuable source for helping you get through the inconvenience of Hurricane Sandy. Please stop by and take advantage of its resources, including asking a librarian any questions you may have about how the library can assist you during the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.
