Online Encyclopedias For Kids Available at Live-brary.com

Suffolk County Public Libraries offer young students access to online encyclopedias through Live-brary.com.

Could your child benefit from having a comprehensive set of online encyclopedias at his or her fingertips?  Suffolk County Public Libraries are offering students K-8 the opportunity to explore seven of these powerful resources at no cost through Live-brary for Kids.  The electronic encyclopedias include:

 ▪ America the Beautiful – Contains state by state histories, maps, and current events.

▪ Grolier Online Kids – A kid friendly place to search four major encyclopedias.

▪ Kids Search – Search this electronic database by keyword or topic.

▪ Novelist Plus K-8 – A fiction and nonfiction readers’ advisory for youngsters.

▪ Primary Search – Provides full text of more than 60 popular magazines for research.

▪ Searchasaurus – Includes a dictionary, magazine articles and animal encyclopedia.

▪ Something About the Author – Examines the lives and works of authors and illustrators.

“Live-brary for Kids encompasses a wealth of relevant and diverse educational resources especially designed to give children a competitive edge in school,” said Suffolk Cooperative Library System Director Kevin Verbesey.  “I urge both students and their parents to take full-advantage of this unique collection.”

To access the online encyclopedias go to Live-brary.com, click on Live-brary for Kids, and click Use Encyclopedias. A valuable source of encyclopedic information awaits your child through Suffolk County Public Libraries.
