Historic Newspapers Available Online at Live-brary.com

Live-brary.com offers access to an online collection of historic newspapers from the county, state, and nation delving as far back as 1822!

Historic Newspapers, a constantly growing, online, searchable collection of newspapers going as far back as 1822 is now available at Live-brary.com through Suffolk County Public Libraries. Live-brary.com provides access to 12 historic local newspapers in a digitalized format enabling you to delve back nearly 200 years into Suffolk County’s history.  Articles can be viewed separately or as they appear on the full page. They can be printed and saved to your local computer or emailed. Prior to the creation of this collection, these newspapers were only available on microfilm at a limited number of libraries and historical societies.

“Newspapers have been an important and unique form of communication in American history - from colonial times to the present. They have also become our windows to the past,” said Suffolk Cooperative Library System Director Kevin Verbesey.  “Public Libraries have long recognized the needs of students, genealogists, researchers and the general public to access these historical newspapers for local history school projects, genealogy and historical research, and for the curious.”

In addition to Historic Newspapers, Live-brary.com offers access to an online archive of major U.S. and International newspapers including Newsday, The New York Times, and The New York Amsterdam News. Just go to Live-brary.com, click “research”, and click “magazines, newspapers and journals”.  A “National Newspaper” link provides access to The Wall Street Journal, The Christian Science Monitor, and The Washington Post. A “New York State Newspapers” link provides you with papers from Albany, Buffalo, and Syracuse, plus The New York Observer, The Daily News and the New York Post.  Many of the nation’s and state’s great newspapers are at your fingertips at Live-brary.com
