Westhampton Beach Football Reaches Division III Championship Game

Hurricanes play perfect football to defeat Islip 28-13 in Division III Semifinal.

Westhampton starting quarterback Jack Murphy had a performance that will, without a shadow of a doubt, be remembered for many years to come. He lead the Hurricanes to a thrilling 28-13 victory over Islip in one of the Suffolk County Division III Semifinals on Friday night.

Playing in front of a capacity crowd at Westhampton Beach’s home field, Murphy threw a touchdown pass (putting the Hurricanes ahead 7-0 in the second quarter) and ran for another (which gave WHB a 21-13 lead in the third quarter). His seven-yard touchdown strike to his brother T.J. Murphy snapped a 0-0 tie in the second quarter as Westhampton, now holders of a sparkling 8-2 overall record, never trailed in the game.

The Hurricanes, which won their first home playoff game in more than 20 years last week, also received touchdown runs from Dan Gomez (five-yard TD) and Evan Gagne (11-yard TD), outscoring Islip 21-0 in the third quarter to take a commanding 28-7 lead. Gomez was also perfect on extra-points, kicking 4-for-4.
