On Thursday, the Hampton Bays girls varsity volleyball team lost to undefeated (league) Elwood/ John Glenn. After a tough five set loss to Southampton on Tuesday, the Lady Baymen looked to rebound against John Glenn. Only having to win one of their final three games the Lady Baymen looked to clinch a playoff berth by knocking off Glenn.
Lady Baymen teammates Lexi Gianone (6 kills, 1ace, 1assist), Andrea Tufano (2 blocks, 3 kills, 1 assist) and Colleen Lawrenz (1 ace, 8 assists) put forth solid performances in a hard fought match but, John Glenn proved to be a formidable opponent. Despite the home crowd's best effort to urge their team on, John Glenn proved why they are the top team in League VII. With a good balance of size and skill, John Glenn took the first three sets (9-25, 13-25, 15-25) and subsequently the victory.
"John Glenn is a great team, they are perennial state tournament contenders" said Hampton Bays coach Andy Fotopoulos after the match. "It all comes down to the last game....win and your in," he added when talking about the Lady Baymen's playoff chances.
