Westhampton Beach Students Recognized for their Achievements

National merit scholars, honor society inductees and zone winners announced by school district.

All County Students Named

Some 16 students from the Westhampton Beach School District were chosen to perform in the All-County Music Festival, a prestigious musical event, where the “finest high school musicians in Suffolk County can perform in choral, orchestral and band ensembles.”

Among those students selected are: Corey Ash, chorus; Michele Cardo, chorus; James Fink, chorus; Liana Fitt, chorus; Paul Grindle, band; Kyle Higgins, chorus; Paula Logozzo, chorus; Aidan Marsicovetere, chorus; Madison Mulvey, chorus; Meredith Nugent, women’s choir; Jacqueline Saccente, chorus; Gabrielle Shea, chorus; Jazmine Sinkoff, Chorus; Aliz Suter, chorus; Jennifer Seychell, women’s choir; and Bre Tucker, chorus.

 National Merit Scholars Recognized

According to the Westhampton Beach School District, Four Westhampton High School students were named as National Merit Commended Students for 2010. They are four of about 34,000 students who are selected for being in the top 5 percent of their classes across the country.

The students selected from Westhampton High School are: Zachary Bass, Andrew Boskamp, Conner Bass and Avery Raimondo.

“This is a very impressive group that are not only talented academically, but are also leaders within our building,” said Chris Herr, high school principal.

 Student Writers

The Westhampton Beach School District has announced that several students from the school district have had the opportunity to participate in The Young American Writers Project, which is sponsored by the Stony Brook Southampton’s MFA in Writing & Literature program.

“The students have really been enjoying this opportunity,” said student advisor Debra Davidson.

During the seven-week program, students shared and critiqued each other’s writing.

According to the school district, the “basis of the program is to help students in the development of creative expression and critical-thinking through their craft of writing,”

 Students Inducted to National Honor Society

The Westhampton Beach School District has noted that six students have been named to the National Honor Society, an organization that recognizes outstanding achievements among students.

Among those inducted are Chelsea Dankner, Vincent Cinque, Alexandra Cable, Paul Grindle, Timothy Hulse and David Chiesa.

 Zone Winners

Recently, two Westhampton Beach High School seniors were awarded with the New York State Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance Suffolk Zone Award.

According to the school districts students who show “outstanding achievements as physical education students, scholars and citizens” are giving the award.

The students who were recently selected are Avery Raimondo, who plays soccer and winter and spring track; and Danielle Parry, who is a member of the varsity lacrosse, varsity soccer and winter track teams.
