Westhampton Beach Student Breaks Indoor High Jump Record

Keira Ann Kelly is heading to the state championships.

A Westhampton Beach High School student is making her hometown proud.

Keira Ann Kelly will be heading to the New York State Public High School Championship on March 1 at Cornell University in Ithaca after breaking her school's girls' indoor high jump record on Saturday.

Keira Ann broke the record by clearing 5'4", said her proud dad, Robert Kelly.

And his daughter, Kelly said, overcame challenges before competing.

"She broke her arm on December 20, 2013 and did not get medical clearance to practice high jumping again until January 25; the very next day on January 26th she won her league high jump championship," he said. "Two weeks after that, on Feb. 8, she broke the record and qualified for the state championship. We are very proud of her, she has always been a gifted student and now she is excelling in track, also."
