Voters Trickle Into Westhampton Beach Schools Polling Place

In Westhampton Beach Tuesday morning, voters were slowly heading to the high school to cast a vote either for or against the $53.5 million budget.

As of 10:00 a.m 73 taxpayers had cast their votes - a slightly higher number of voters than the last election - in 2012, 23 voters cast ballots as of 10:30 a.m.

Polling officials, however, expect a rush when school lets out and before 5:00 p.m.

It remains unclear which way the vote will go, but one voter, who wished not to be named, said she voted in support of the budget because she wants to preserve education for her granddaughter who will eventually enter the school district.

Traditionally, voters have supported the Westhampton Beach School District budget. In 2012 when the district presented a budget that breached the state's two percent tax cap, requiring 60 percent of voters to approve it, 63 percent or 523 voters cast a ballot in support.

Polls in Westhampton Beach will remain open until 9:00 p.m. Be sure to check back at Patch for full results.
