Superintendent and Board President Say Goodbye in Westhampton Beach

Retirees and tenured teachers also honored at Monday night meeting.

Tears were held back as the Westhampton Beach School Board said goodbye to Superintendent Lynn Schwartz and , school board president, during Monday night’s school board meeting. 

Both Schwartz and Terchunian joined the school district ten years ago; both were bidding farewells for different reasons.  While Schwartz is retiring, Terchunian to challenger in May.

“We came in together and we will exit together with our heads held high,” said Schwartz.

Schwartz said Terchunian has been a true leader for the school district, always working to support the students through various projects, including technology and environmental projects.

Terchunian had equally nice things to say about Schwartz.

“He has been our fearless leader.  He has brought us a long way and has always got the job done no matter what.  If it was good for the district, Lynn was on the front lines,” said Terchunian.

Also on Monday, the district gave send-off wishes to two retiring teachers, Jane Flinter, who taught English for 31 years and Sandy Surgan, who taught health for 31 years.

Both Flinter and Surgan were also graduates of Westhampton Beach Schools.

After goodbye wishes were make, the district extended their arms to welcome some 10 tenured teachers.
