Students in the News: Art Student Wins Trip to Cayman Islands

A look at the achievements of area students.

Here is a look at Hampton Bays students that were caught doing great things.

Saving the Sharks

Sofia Solano Cruz and her family will get to take a vacation to the Cayman Islands after Cruz won first place in a contest, sponsored by the Beneath the Sea organization. The contest was created to make young people aware of some of the perils faced by marine creatures. Cruz's poster, which she designed in Debra McDowell’s art class is a picture of a girl at the grocery store, which had signs posted reading “Do Not Buy Shark Products.” In the color drawing, the girl has a “no sharks” illustration bubble above her head.
