School Superintendent Takes Oath of Office in Westhampton Beach

Mike Radday was sworn in on Monday night.

Mike Radday was officially sworn in as the new Westhampton Beach School District superintendent on Monday night during a brief school board meeting.

Radday takes the place of who retired on August 1. Radday is not a new face to the school district; he previously served as assistant superintendent.

After the swearing in ceremony, the school board got to work, first hearing a presentation by Nora Davenport of the Westhampton Beach High School's .  Davenport, a high school student, asked the school board to approve an annual club camping trip. The trip, she said, helps the students bond and builds team skills.

Also during the meeting, the school board approved a vendor bid to Healthy Thing Service for a new vending machine snack service, which the district says will make healthier snacks available to students. The snacks will also be packaged in biodegradable materials.

According to Radday, the district will receive 25 percent of the gross sales from the vending machines, which will go into the student activities accounts in each building.

"We chose to go with more healthy alternatives in our vending machines as part of the district's overall commitment to health and wellness," said Radday. "We are happy to be able to provide our students with natural and organic snacks in environmentally friendly, biodegradable packaging. This shift in our vending machine offerings will complement the changes the district has made in its overall food service program over the past year."

The new vending machines will be in the high school cafeteria, the middle school cafeteria, the middle school gym lobby and in each of the district's faculty rooms.
