Quogue Gets Kudos for Bullying Awareness

BOE meeting brief, but highlights the positive

On account of the impending snow, the Quogue Board of Education’s monthly meeting convened an hour earlier on Tuesday evening, getting down to business well before the the first flakes began to  fall.

Kicking off the new year’s business agenda, the BOE reviewed two warrants, its revenue budget and appropriation status reports from late 2010, then moved to approve of the years' school calendar, with no new changes noted.

Keeping up the meeting’s swift tempo, Superintendent Richard Benson reported on the success of the Bullying Awareness Workshop held earlier in the day at Quogue School, praising the school’s ongoing commitment to student’s safety.

Andrea Fallick, assistant director for School Based Programs at Student Assistance Services Corp in Westchester, hosted the Bullying Awareness Workshop with more than 40 parents in attendance. Sharing her twenty years of experience with youth related issues, Fallick later conducted two additional workshops with the school’s staff, bolstering the school’s bullying awareness efforts.

“This morning we had a large turnout of parents for a very good presentation,” said Benson. “We are a very small school and really don’t have any bullying problems, but we wanted to make parents aware of what things to look out for and how to address them."

A handout outlining SAS Corp’s bullying prevention formula was distributed, and according to the superintendent, Quogue School has covered its bases and is in very good shape. Benson noted that SAS Corp’s bullying expert commended the school’s positive programs already in place and was impressed overall.
