Photo of the Day: Hampton Bays School District Honored

The Suffolk County Legislature presented the Hampton Bays School District with a proclamation.

The Hampton Bays School District, on September 15, was honored by the Suffolk County Legislature for its efforts during Irene.

During the storm, the Hampton Bays High School serviced as a for many area residents from Hampton Bays to Westhampton Beach who were evacuated from their homes.  The shelter also served many who were .

“The shelter at the Hampton Bays High School is a shining example of what amazing things can be done when a community comes together to help each other in a time of need,” said East End Legis. Jay Schneiderman.

Of the honor, Lars Clensen, Hampton Bays superintendent said, "We are humbled by the recognition of Legislator Schneiderman and his colleagues in the County Legislature.  The proclamation recognizes the district's staff and families who stepped up to care for one another during Hurricane Irene and make sure that everyone in Hampton Bays who needed shelter had it, and on behalf of those who stepped up to help, I thank Jay for his recognition."
