Meet Westhampton Beach's Valedictorian and Salutatorian

Graduation will be held on June 21 at 7 p.m.

The Westhampton Beach School District has named the Valedictorian and Salutatorian for the 2013 graduating class, which will receive diplomas at a graduation ceremony set for Friday, June 21 at 7:00 p.m.

Nicasia Beebe-Wang, Valedictorian

Beebe-Wang, a Westhampton resident, was selected as the 2013 valedictorian for not only having a GPA of 98.076, but for also making history for the school district when she was chosen as a semi-finalist in the Intel Science Talent Search for her project that focused on genes and cocaine addiction.

During her high school career, Beebe-Wang has taken 13 advanced placement courses; completed a two-year internship in the Neuropsychoimaging group at Brookhaven National Lab; recognized as an AP Scholar with Distinction as a National Merit recipient; served as secretary of the Key Club and lieutenant governor of all regional Key Clubs; and captain of the Varsity Quiz Bowl team.

Beebe-Wang, who attended the Long Island School for the gifted, before enrolling in Westhampton Beach High School in the 9th grade, plans to attend Harvard University in the fall where she will major in neuroscience.

Marielle Ray, Salutatorian

Ray, a Southampton resident was selected as the 2013 salutation for having a grade point average of 98.4, as well as her for her contributions to the school.

During her high school career, Ray, completed 11 AP courses, excelling in languages, humanities, as well as math and science. She was named a National Merit Semifinalist; and was on the math, science and foreign language honor societies. In addition, Ray was an active member of the Key Club and the Gay-Straight Alliance, Mathletes and Quiz Bowl.

Outside of school, Ray worked with the Sobernost World Fair Trade in Hampton Bays as a volunteer, championing for the underprivileged.

In the fall, Ray will study at Macaulay Honors College at CUNY in New York City.
