Meet The Candidates: Westhampton Beach School Board

Which candidates will you vote for?

In Westhampton Beach, two open seats are available with three candidates running. Candidates are incumbent Halsey C. Stevens, former board member Joyce L. Donneson and newcomer Claire Bean. Meet them below.

Halsey C. Stevens

Stevens, who is a life-long resident, is vying for his second term on the school board.

Stevens, who hopes to continue to keep the budget at bay while maintaining the district's current programs is a captain in the Westhampton Beach Fire Department and is a retired physical education teacher, teaching in East Quogue for 34 years.

He is also the owner of Halsey Pools in Westhampton.

He and wife Jill live in Westhampton and have a son in college.

Claire Bean

If elected, Bean, who is a self-employed special event designer and planner, hopes to use her "experience and insights as an active parent, business woman and community member" as a member of the school board.

Bean, who holds a Bachelor degree in drama from Washington College, has been a resident of Westhampton since 1999, previously living in Remsenburg. She has served as a parent member on the committee for special education for the last 10 years and actively participates in the HUGS of Westhampton Beach program.

She and her husband, Phil have three children.

Joyce L. Donneson

Donneson a resident of Quiogue, told 27east that she hopes to "advocate for the community children" if she is elected.

Donneson, 27-east reported is a self-employed meat distributor for Boar’s Head and holds Bachelor of Science degree in education from St. Joseph’s College in Patchogue.

She previously served on the school board for eight years, starting in 2001. She also ran for reelection in 2012, but lost that bid to Gordon A. Werner.
