Meet The Candidates: Hampton Bays School Board

Which candidate will you vote for?

In Hampton Bays, there are three candidates vying for two open seats. The candidates are incumbent Richard Joslin and newcomers Adam Ortiz and Kevin Springer. Meet them below. 

Richard Joslin

Joslin, a life-long Hampton Bays resident, graduating from the Hampton Bays School district in 1970, is vying for reelection.

Joslin, who has served on the board for three years, holds a Bachelor's Degree from the University of New York at Oneonta and is a retired teacher, teaching in the Hampton Bays elementary and middle schools for 34 years. He was also an adjunct professor at Long Island University.

Joslin and his wife, Debbi, who is a 2nd grade teacher in Hampton Bays, have three children.

If re-elected, he told 27east, he hopes to "continue to improve the curriculum to better prepare students for college or a technical career path."

Adam Ortiz

Ortiz, a newcomer, said he hopes to win a seat on a the school board to "work to get the most for our tax dollars and ensure that there is accountability and transparency at every level." 

Ortiz, who has lived in the area for 15 years and said he attends almost every school board meeting, holds three Master's Degrees, one in social work, one in management and technology and a third in technological system management. He works as an economic development coordinator for Stony Brook University.

Ortiz is also a member of the Concerned Citizens of Hampton Bays, the Hampton Bays CAC and has participated in numerous school organizations, including the PTO, the Booster Club and as a member of the budget advisory committee.

Ortiz and his wife, Naseema, have three children in the school district.

Kevin Springer

Springer, a lifelong resident of Hampton Bays and graduate of the school district, said if elected, he hopes to work to ensure that the district's budget meets the 2 percent tax cap.

Springer holds a degree in business administration and is the owner of Dynamic Legal Services and a previous owner of Rapid Recovery Towing, both in Hampton Bays.

He is also a member of the Hampton Bays CAC and Concerned Citizens of Hampton Bays, as well as the vice president of the Hampton Bays Booster Club. He has also coached youth sports in Hampton Bays for the past 20 years.

Springer and his wife have three children in the Hampton Bays School District.
