Hampton Bays Taxpayers Hit The Polls

As of 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, some 422 Hampton Bays taxpayers hit the polls to cast their ballot either for or against the district's $47 million budget.

According to polling officials, that number is just slightly higher than the number of voters who voted by 1:00 p.m in 2012, which resulted in an approved budget.

In 2011, 945 taxpayers voted yes and 393 no.

It is unclear how this year's vote will go. One taxpayer Patch spoke with said he wasn't even sure how he will vote and a mom of two said she reluctantly voted yes.

She said, "I have to pass the budget because of my kids, but I think the district can do better, especially when it comes to teachers."

She went on to say that she believes some teachers are paid too much.

"If they were all good teachers, I wouldn't have a problem," she said.

Polling officials said they expect a rush to the polls around 7:00 p.m. Polls close at 9:00 p.m.
