Hampton Bays Students Take ‘The Challenge’

High school kids advance to the second round.

On Nov. 12, five students from Hampton Bays High School competed in MSG Varsity's Tri-State area academic quiz show, "The Challenge," according to a school district spokesperson. Representing the high school were Alexandra Pandolfo, Pawel Golyski, James Tran, Deborah Carlin and alternate Jesse Eaton.

The quiz show challenges teams of four, and one alternate, with increasingly difficult questions during the half-hour competition. The show is divided into three rounds that include multiple-choice questions, a lightning round in which teams try to answer 10 questions in 60 seconds, and a final round, during which teams can answer questions freely, but risk losing 10 points for incorrect answers.

The competition was neck-and-neck the entire game as Hampton Bays students competed against Islip High School. With a final score of 245-240, the Baymen advanced to the second-round competition. The show will air on MSG Varsity, Channel 14 on Cablevision, in late January.
