Hampton Bays Students in the News: Students of the Month and ‘Zumbathon’

A look at the achievements of area students.

Each month, students from Hampton Bays are honored by their respective school district's board of education. Here is a look at the students that were caught doing great things.

Three Hampton Bays students—one from the elementary school, one from the middle school and one from the high school—were nominated for Student of the Month honors for the month of October. Third-grader Maxwell Garcia, sixth-grader Annabelle Dominguez and senior Daniela Gutierrez were on hand to receive plaques and words of commendation from their respective principals during the Hampton Bays Board of Education meeting at the high school library on Tuesday, Nov. 13.

Hampton Bays Cheerleaders Host a ‘Zumbathon’

For this year’s annual Booster Club Baymen Care Challenge, members of the Hampton Bays varsity football and PAL cheer squads teamed up to raise money for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation by hosting a “Party in Pink Zumbathon” charity event, which brought in about 300 people.

The Zumbathon dancing event, was held on Friday, Oct. 12, at the Hampton Bays High School gym and raised over $3,700.

The five senior members of the Hampton Bays varsity football cheerleading squad—Colleen Casella, Layla De Luca, Itzel Figueroa, Angie Jimenez and Chessa Sheppard—organized the event and presented the funds to the Booster Club on Nov. 14.

Hampton Bays Continues to Honor Veterans

The Hampton Bays School District continued to honor veterans by conducting a flag ceremony on Oct. 26 in recognition of the service of local heroes. The most recent flag ceremony, held at the elementary school was in honor of Anthony Galgano, a World War II army veteran.
