Whiz Kids’ Key to Awesomeness: To win at scrabble, Kraus and Frost say it’s all about practice. To be the best, the boys said they have been working to learn as many two and three letter words as they could as well as “q-without-u words.”  In addition, they've studied the dictionary and memorizing many Z, X, and J words.

“They'll earn you a lot of points,” said the boys, of the Z, X and J words.

Hampton Bays Middle School Scrabble Club Coach Kathy Hummel says she is proud of the boys whom she has been working with since they were in fourth grade.

“Lucas and Timothy have worked hard to improve their word knowledge, strategy skills and team work,” said Hummel.  “This year, it paid off with a trip to the National School Scrabble Championship.”

Hummel said the boys are very excited about representing their school as well as meeting scrabble players from around the country.

Hummel thanks the Hampton Bays Middle School’s teachers and parents, as well as sponsors from the community who have supported the scrabble team’s efforts.
