Hampton Bays School Budget Keeps All Teaching Positions Intact

How will you vote on Tuesday?

On Tuesday, Hampton Bays taxpayers are asked to cast a vote for or against a $47,054,545 budget that carries with it a 2.62 percent spending increase and a $42,508,170 tax levy, which is up 2.69 percent from the last budget cycle.

According to the school district, the district was able to keep the budget under the state's two percent tax cap through several measures, including the following:

• The redirecting and/or combining some school bus routes, eliminating the use of up to 3 buses

• Reducing operating maintenance costs on aging infrastructure through the November-approved bond act.

• Offering an incentive to encourage five eligible employees to retire and thus generate salary savings.

• Negotiating contract concessions from vendors and staff bargaining units.

•  Partnering with Eastern Suffolk BOCES to run a regional summer school to realize cost-savings through an economy of scale.

The district estimates that a taxpayer with a home valued at $450,000 will see a $149 annual increase in taxes.
