Members of the Hampton Bays varsity and junior varsity boys and girls basketball teams recently participated in a Special Olympics Unified Basketball game against the Southampton High School Mariners in an effort to promote camaraderie, sportsmanship, kindness and acceptance.

According to the school district, each team was made up of of two Special Olympics athletes from the Hampton Bays Life Skills classes and three unified players from the Baymen basketball program. Although no score was kept, the players all adhered to the regular rules of the sport.

The Hampton Bays team was coached by Kyle Valentine, who coordinates the Life Skills program.
