Hampton Bays Names Valedictorian and Salutatorian

Graduation will be held on June 22 at 11 a.m.

The Hampton Bays has named the Valedictorian and Salutatorian for the 2013 graduating class, which will receive diplomas at a graduation ceremony set for Saturday, June 22 at 11:00 a.m. 

Harry Fotopoulos, Valedictorian

Fotopoulos was selected as the 2013 class valedictorian for not only having a 104.1 weighted grade point average, but for his leadership skills. 

According to the school district, Fotopoulos has served as the president the Student Council; co-president of the HBHS chapter of Future Business Leaders of America; a member of Congressman Bishop’s Youth Advisory Board and the Town of Southampton's Youth Board. He was also captain of the varsity basketball and soccer teams. 

In addition, Fotopoulos speaks three languages, English, Greek and Spanish and was a member of the school's National Honor Society, Anti-Bias Task Force, Varsity Club, SADD Club, as well as a student representative for teacher hiring and budget Advisory committee.

"He basically represents everything that is right about education in Hampton Bays," said the school district. 

Fotopoulos will be attending Boston University in the fall, majoring in Business. 

Jesse Dubrowsky, Salutatorian 

Dubrowsky was named salutatorian with a 103.8 weighted grade point average.

During his tenure in high school, the school district said he has taken the most competitive course of study available at Hampton Bays High School, including courses such as AP Calculus AB and BC, AP Biology and AP Spanish Language. 

Dubrowsky is also a lifeguard for the Town of Southampton and training as a Junior EMT at the Hampton Bays Ambulance Corps. He also received a substantial scholarship from Big Brothers-Big Sisters for his service and mentorship of a child in the district's elementary school and is a volunteer at the Southampton Animal Shelter. 

In addition, he invested three years as a critical member of the school district's Robotics team, leading the high school to annual competitions in the FIRST Robotics league and was a member of the school's National Honor Society, HOPE Environmental Club, the Key Club and high school Academic Team for the LI Challenge. 

Dubrowsky will be attending Virginia Polytechnic Institute, majoring in Engineering this fall.
