Dinner/comedy show will be held on Friday, Feb. 3 at 7 p.m. at the Hyatt in Riverhead

In an effort to raise funds for fitness equipment for the wellness center at the Hurricane Foundation has organized a dinner/comedy show for Friday night.

The show, which will feature Chris Roach, will take place at 7 p.m. at the Hyatt in Riverhead.

The wellness center, according to the school district, aims to encourage students to take part in healthy exercise in a comfortable setting during and after school.

The center, which is located at the high school, was funded through the district's 2011 budget, however, no funds were available to cover costs for equipment. With a history of raising funds for projects, the Hurricane Foundation, a non-profit group, offered to take on the task of raising the necessary funds.

In a letter to parents, the foundation writes, "The Foundation feels strongly that exercise is a key part of our children’s health and well-being and that the center will offer them a wonderful opportunity."
