School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences presents monthly seminars for the Public Lecture Series.  These are at the Southampton Campus in Duke Lecture Hall.  All are welcome.  No registration needed.

Dr. Janet Nye will discuss topis of work completed with the National Oceanic  (NOAA).

Summary of topic:

Recent studies have documented shifts in the geographic distribution of many marine fish stocks in response to warming water temperatures.  In the Northeast US, over half of the stocks examined moved northward or to deeper depths to remain within their preferred temperature range.  Similar trends have been observed in the North Sea, the west coast of the United States and even Long Island Sound.  In the face of climate change, what does the future hold for fish, fishermen and consumers?
