East Quogue Band Students Perform at Islanders Game [Photos, Video]

The students go an opportunity to show off their skills over the weekend.

The East Quogue Elementary School marching band, made up of students in grades four through six, got the opportunity to perform during an Islanders game over the weekend.

The students played from the stands and could be viewed on the jumbo tron at Nassau Coliseum during the second intermission of the game in which the Islanders defeated the Washington Capitals, 5-2.

"They sounded like a professional marching band," said Robert Long, principal of the East Quogue Elementary School.

The students got the chance to perform after a representative from Islanders approached the school district after seeing the band, which was formed in 2003, featured on the district's website.

Over 150 community members, students and families attend the event.

In the past, the band has performed in the East Quogue Memorial Day parade and the annual Hampton Bays Saint Patrick’s Day Parade.

"Our powerful little marching band has gained recognition and respect throughout the Hampton community for its quality sound and distinct uniformity," said Long. "Our young elementary school students continue to impress everyone who hears and sees them perform, as they cast away any doubt that such a young group can perform and deliver the highest quality of musical perfection
