Concerned East Quogue Moms To Host Common Core Forum

The the event will be held on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Three East Quogue moms, calling themselves The Concerned Parents of East Quogue, are inviting East End parents to a Common Core forum that they are hosting along with the East Quogue PTA on Wednesday evening.

Mom Cyndi McNamara said she worked with fellow parents Carolyn Terry, Kimberly Riccio to create the forum in a week's time in an effort to provide an opportunity for parents to learn more about the common core program after attending a similar event in  Levittown.

At that event, parents blasted the Common Core, stating that it is hurting their children after hearing from a number of speakers, including Jeanette Deutermann, founder of Long Island Opt-Out Facebook page, which has over 12,000 members.

Wednesday night's forum, said McNamara will focus on the required testing under Common Core and what it means for children.

Speaking will be Dr. Rella, superintendent of schools in Comsewogue;  Yvonne Gasperino, Founder of Stop the Common Core in NYS; Mary Calamia; and Craig Charvat, a social studies teacher at Moriches High School.

The forum will start at 7 p.m. at the East Quogue Elementary School, 6 Central Avenue.
