UPDATED: Mandatory Evacuations Starting at 10 A.M. in Low-Lying Areas

Dune Road will be cleared by 10 a.m. Saturday. Westhampton and Quogue Fire Departments start evacuations at 10 a.m.

The has ordered the evacuation of Dune Road by 10 a.m. Saturday morning, and the villages of Westhampton Beach and Quogue are ordering evacuations for some areas as well.

West Hampton Dunes Village Clerk Laura Dalessandro said the village's constables will be going house to house, to all 300 or so homes in the village, to make sure everyone gets out.

Westhampton Beach Village has asked residents to voluntary evacuate areas south of Main Street and South Road, and the evacuation order becomes mandatory at 10 a.m. Saturday. As of 10 a.m., Dune Road closed to all incoming traffic.

Quogue Village anticiaptes mandatory evacuations from Dune Road south to Quogue Street effective Saturday morning. Post Lane Bridge will be closed to southbound traffic.

A statement issued by police on Saturday morning stated that, "anticipated scheduled starts of evacuations for the Southampton Town Fire Districts are as follow [sic]:"

  • Westhampton Fire Department - 10 a.m.
  • Quogue Village Fire Department - 10 a.m.
  • Eastport Fire Department - Noon
  • Flanders Fire Department - Noon
  • Riverhead Fire Department - Noon

Residents have already begun to secure their homes, bring in patio furniture and . Dorothy Dennehy, 85, of Quogue said she will be going to the Riverhead Holiday Inn with three friends and plans to play bridge all weekend.

The American Red Cross will open a shelter at for displaced residents with no place else to go, according to Southampton Town officials. A representative of the Suffolk County Red Cross โ€” which can be reached at 631-924-6700 โ€” said the definitive list of shelters will be issued Saturday morning at 8 a.m. The best place for that information, she said, is Suffolk County's website; that includes information on shelters that will take pets.
