Westhampton Beach Trustee Asks Is Main Street Music Too Much

Toni-Jo Birk suggested staggering Main Street music on Main Street.

An idea to turn the dial down on Main Street music was shot down this week.

During the Westhampton Beach Village's monthly work session on Wednesday night Trustee Toni-Jo Birk suggested that musical performances presented by various Main Street businesses during tourist season be staggered to prevent excess noise on Main Street in the summer.

"It's something I'd like to try," she said.

Birk said a few local business owners have complained to her about noise levels on Main Street.

The idea, however, was not met with harmonious agreement. All of her fellow trustees said they didn't see an issue.

Hank Tucker said in years past, yes, music has posed a problem, however, stricter regulations on amplification have amply address the issue.

"I didn't see a problem this year like in years past," he said. I don't think we had any police complaints this year."

"I personally like all the sounds on Main Street," said Patricia DiBenedetto and Sue Farell added, "If it's not broke, don't fix it."
