Westhampton Beach Recoups Irene Costs

Westhampton Beach's village clerk says the village will get back $48,000.

While didn't pack as much punch as expected, the late August storm took its toll on Westhampton Beach, knocking , and flooding. The costs the the village were high: $55,000.

Quickly , village officials applied for aid funding from both New York State and FEMA, submitting paperwork with costs associated with the town's highway and police departments for cleanup and evacuations.

Just this week, Rebecca Molinaro, the village clerk, learned that the village will recoup 75 percent of its costs from FEMA and 12 percent from the state, totaling $48,000.

"I just want to publicly thank everyone for getting their information together," said Molinaro.
