Westhampton Beach Mayor: Village Budget Will Be Under Two Percent

Westhampton Beach Mayor Conrad Teller says he is working to bring the village's budget under the two percent tax cap.

Westhampton Beach Mayor Contrad Teller has been busy working on the new village budget, saying that in it's current state, it is slightly above the state's two percent tax cap.  He says, however, that he intends to have it below the tax cap by the time it is presented to the board at the end of the month.

"We have some pruning to do," said Teller.

According to Rebecca Molinaro, the village clerk, the budget will be presented on March 21 at the village's monthly work session with a public hearing scheduled for April 5.

After the hearing, the board will then be in a position to adopt it.

Also on April 5, a public hearing will be held on proposed legislation that aims to allow board members to , if necessary.

Molinaro says the legislation is just a precautionary measure.

The carried with it a 5.40 percent tax rate increase, which reflected a 1.45 percent spending increase.
