Town OK's Preservation of Bailey Motel Land

The Town of Southampton purchased a portion of the 32-acre property with Suffolk County.

Southampton Town members voted last week to spend $3.045 million in community preservation funds to preserve 29 acres in Westhampton. The Bailey Motel property, which sits just east of Buoy One, is proposed to be preserved in a 50/50 split with Suffolk County.

The property, which is purportedly owned by 6 Pierrepont LLC, is proposed to be purchased for $6,090,000, with Suffolk County using money from its Drinking Water Protection Program for its portion.

The land, according a resolution authorizing the purchase, will be slated as open space and for "appropriate park and recreation purposes."

An additional three acres of the 32-acre property is being bought by the Westhampton Cemetery Association and the Peconic Land Trust, according to Southampton officials.

Preservation is contingent upon Suffolk County approval.
