West Hampton Dunes in Second Place in Best Restored Beach Contest

Dunes trails Panama City by 350 votes; Congressman Bishop asks for clicks.

The s is holding a steady second place behind Panama City in an ASPBA contest that celebrates past winners of it's annual Best Restored Beaches Across America contest.

As of Tuesday afternoon, West Hampton Dunes sat 350 votes behind Panama City and Congressman Timothy Bishop put out a call for residents to continue to vote for West Hampton Dunes.

With three days left in the contest, Bishop wrote, "I hope you will join me in supporting one of our finest beaches — West Hampton Dunes — for national recognition. Show your pride that a Long Island Beach is a leading candidate for this prestigious honor."

The national contest continues through Friday with rules allowing anyone to vote once a day by clicking here.

Earlier this month, Gary Vegliante, mayor of West Hampton Dunes, expressed optimism in winning the best restored beach honor, saying, "We are looking to kick some butt."

At that time, the village garnered 598 votes. The village currently has 3,526 votes.
